WYCJ and PISFCC win Global Leadership Award

On 5th December 2023 the Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change and World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) were awarded the Global Leadership Award during the Climate Law and Governance Initiative (CLGI) at the Middlesex University in Dubai.

The Global Leadership Awards are presented each year to legal professionals and institutions that advance our collective understanding and implementation of international climate law and development and who advance the implementation of the Paris Agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The awards categories are: Practitioner, General Counsel, Negotiator, Civil Society/Foundation Leader, Dean of Law School, President of Bar Association/Law Society.

This is how CLGI introduces themselves and the award:

The Climate Law and Governance Initiative Secretariat (CLGI) is a partnership, led by a coalition from across the global climate law and governance community including university law and governance schools, expert institutes, international organisation legal offices, law associations and firms, foundations and civil society organisations. In general, the CLGI’s work focuses on legal and institutional responses to the challenges posed by climate change and seeks to complement ongoing efforts in this field. To celebrate and recognise the amazing work that is taking place in the Climate Law and Governance field, we have set up the Global Leadership Award on Climate Law and Governance.

We were awarded the Climate Law and Governance Award with the following reasoning

“Climate Law Civil Society and Legal Community Leaders: Solomon Yeo, Jule Schnakenberg, Vishal Prasad and the Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change for cultivating stubborn optimism among the international community for climate litigation.”
