WYCJ Singapore co-host workshop with National University of Singapore and Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law

Join the Asia front here.

On 31st January 2024, the World's Youth for Climate Justice (Singapore Front), led by Terese Teoh and Justin Lim, collaborated with the National University of Singapore (NUS)'s Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law (APCEL) to jointly organize a half-day workshop to raise awareness about the Advisory Opinions before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and the International Court of Justice.

In the first half of the workshop, Amanda Chong from the Attorney-General's Chambers shared with us the methodological and progressive approach adopted in Singapore's Written Submission for the ITLOS AO. This was followed by a presentation from Dr. Nilufer Oral of the UN International Law Commission, where she discussed the legal procedures involved. Finally, Nicole Ponce of WYCJ shared with us the WYCJ campaign and post-campaign efforts.

The second half of the workshop saw representatives of youth groups LepakinSG, Singapore Youth for Climate Action, and SG Climate Rally sharing their experiences with environmental advocacy, such as the different strategies adopted by the groups to advance environmental policymaking in Singapore.

The workshop captured a diverse range of perspectives and what happens inside and outside the negotiating room. WYCJ sends our deep appreciation once again to all the speakers and participants who came down!
