As the Inter-American Court of Human Rights prepares to deliver its much-anticipated Advisory Opinion to clarify State obligations in the context of the climate emergency, World's Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ), Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), Greenpeace International, AIDA - Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense, FACE Intergenerational Justice, La Ruta del Clima, Union of Concerned Scientists, Dejusticia, Earthjustice, EarthRights International, Center for Justice and International Law - CEJIL, CAN-LA, and Centro de Desarrollo Humanos (CDH– Honduras) are co-hosting a timely webinar to explore the transformative potential of this Advisory Opinion in a webinar on June 10.
This conversation will unpack key reflections on:
➡ The legal arguments presented to the Court.
➡ The broader scope of the proceedings (which included the submission of over 200 written observations and three rounds of hearings in April and May 2024).
➡ What an ideal outcome might look like.
We will also examine how this opinion, alongside others issued or pending before international courts, can strengthen climate justice, guide State action, influence climate litigation, and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives across Latin America and beyond.
