Co-organized by World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) and Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change (PISFCC), this session translates the mobility-related holdings of the just released climate advisory opinions of the International Court of Justice and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights into concrete actions for governments, cities, schools, and civil society. The opinions underscore that climate impacts can render return unsafe and engage States’ duties of non-refoulement; call for preventing forced displacement through risk reduction, social protection, and education continuity; require timely information and participation of at-risk communities; and set rights-based standards for planned relocation, housing, and essential services, together with access to justice and meaningful redress.
