Around the world, legal initiatives are becoming essential instruments in the struggle for climate justice. The International Court of Justice recently issued its Advisory Opinion on climate change, offering new guidance on the obligations of states to protect people and the planet. At the same time, movements to recognise ecocide as a crime and a growing number of youth led litigation cases are reshaping how law is mobilised to address the climate crisis. These tools demonstrate the potential of legal frameworks to safeguard the rights of present and future generations, hold decision makers accountable, and push for systemic change.
This panel will bring together diverse voices to explore how legal pathways are being used, adapted, and scaled up by young people and civil society to advance climate justice globally.
