World’s Youth for Climate Justice is highly supportive of the calls for the establishment of a Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Climate Change. We view this Special Rapporteur as an important potential ally for civil society and youth organizations in bringing across their needs and voices to the Human Rights Council.

Youth representatives and the Belgian government seek attention for climate justice at the United Nations. The youth promote a legal opinion by the International Court of Justice, in a bid to find equitable solutions to the climate crisis and halt dangerous global warming.

What was once a “turn” in climate litigation, has now become its central driving force. World’s Youth for Climate Justice has been awarded the PACEY Plus Youth Award in the category ‘Beyond Europe’ during the Intergenerational Forum on Peace, the climate, nuclear disarmament and the pandemic on January 19 2021.

We talk to Nicole Ann Ponce, from Cebu, Philippines, a young volunteer in the climate justice movement “I am Climate Justice” about the beginnings and aims of ICJ, and the importance of each one of us doing our part to care for the planet.  

We were wanting to create an opportunity that draws out the voice of children and youth to express for themselves the future that they imagine to live in or a future to avoid. We decided that a virtual art competition is one of the best ways to achieve this and thus have initiated the ‘Reimagining Pacific Futures’ art competition.
